Genre-bending Percussionist/Composer Mark Katsaounis fuses his background in Classical, Chamber, World, and Popular music to move effortlessly between New York City’s unique and exotic musical scenes. His diverse experiences range from playing in concert halls and Broadway theaters to dance studios and clubs. Mark has had the pleasure to perform with percussionist Glen Velez, Sounds of Cyprus, Gate 2 Gate 4tet, Percussion Group/Cincinnati, Ethos Percussion Group, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, the Broadway productions of Back to the Future,The Notebook, Mean Girls, and Tuck Everlasting. Mark was the featured solo percussionist for Shakespeare's Antony & Cleopatra at McCarter Theatre. Additionally, he has been heard on live television and radio broadcasts in the U.S and Mexico. Mark has accompanied modern dance for over 15 years and currently plays for classes at the Alvin Ailey School, Marymount Manhattan College, and American Ballet Theatre. Additionally, he composed original, evening length music for Catherine Cabeen-Hyphen Dance and Dance Entropy. He is on the faculty at Hofstra University, the Ailey School (Music for Dancers), and Concordia Conservatory.
Mark was a founding member of Limbs Percussion Duo (2011-2016). Limbs released their debut EP, Jeton, in June 2011 and presented concerts and masterclasses throughout the US.
Mark earned his BM in percussion from The Hartt School of Music and his MM in percussion from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
